Priorities

In the past month I have come across much more than my normal share of (people with) illnesses.  I have had to scramble to find emergency health care for sick students in foreign Cambodia.  A brave old friend whose 10+ year fight against nose cancer is getting tougher and tougher; to the extend his is calling for old friends to see him.  An uncle whose cancer has spread from his lung and is causing him much pain.  A good friend had a mighty scare of a mysterious tumor which required a surgery; the tumor, fortunately, turned out to be benign.  A feisty student went though several heart surgeries due to complications from a rare and incurable illness; as strong as she is, the future is decidedly uncertain.

And then, of course, there are these youngsters in Cambodia for whom simply having enough to eat, a place to stay, a piece clothing to wear, and a place to study, are daily battles.

Set against these mighty struggles with precious life and sometimes imminent death, the prejudices, selfishness, back stabbings, and sometimes open fights in and out of the university seem increasingly petty and tiresome.

Without faith, it is easy to get lost in life.
