Macau Dog Racing

I was somewhat surprised to see greyhounds racing on TV in a hotel in Macau.  I know that it is still going on, just was not prepared to see it on TV.

There appears to be very few people in the arena.  There also does not appear to be a lot of people betting on it.  If it is not attracting a lot of people and the revenue is low, why is it still operating?

The dogs did not seem to be happy.  Many of them had their tails between their legs.  And the postures did not project confidence.  Many seemed downright fearful.  It must not be a happy life chasing after a mechanical “rabbit” around the track.  It was reported that they might not be treated very well, and 30 dogs were killed each month because they were not performing well.

Why is it continuing?
